Our friendly group meets on the second Wednesday of each month and visits often last into the afternoon (dependent on travel). We visit places of historical interest in the local area and London. At the start of the year we have a meeting and put forward suggestions of where we would like to visit. Once these are agreed, members of the group, either individually or in pairs, will plan and lead each of the visits. Travel is by public transport using our Freedom passes and we tend to stop for coffee, a snack or lunch, depending on availability and location. The group is currently active and we have our full quota of members. However, there is a waiting list for anyone interested in joining us.
September 2026 Supreme Court
Our U3A group recently enjoyed a visit to the Supreme Court in London which is housed in a beautiful historic building combining history, architectural & workings of the law. We were able to visit three court rooms, each with its own character : Courts One &Two, where cases before the Supreme Court are heard; Court Three - The Judicial committee of the privy Council. These are important appeals from a number of the Commonwealth countries.
To make it brief, there was so much to see and take in to appreciate everything in one visit. Our tour guide, was excellent - very knowledgeable and explained all the history of the building.
I think everyone in the group enjoyed it.
