Members take monthly turns planning visits to Churches and Cathedrals in and around London. Started January 2026. If you have an interest in history, architecture, art, sculpture, sociology and culture this group is for you.
St Martins-in-the-Field and The National Gallery Inclement weather forced the group to change plans to visit Lesnes Abbey but we all enjoyed the serenity and simplicity of St Martins-in-the-Field, a church we pass so often in London. It is in fact the King's parish church, built in the 1700s and supports the local community in so many ways. After lunch in the crypt we visited the National Gallery - viewing the vast collection of religious art in the Sainsbury Wing.
July Lesnes Abbey;
This visit was finally arranged after being delayed in May due to torrential rain. Brave members endured a scorcher of a day which was made very worthwhile by a guided tour from Anne-Marie Brennan and author Chris Hawkins, both Friends of the Lesnes Abbey Charity. Fabulous history, picturesque location and palpable atmosphere.
Next outing to All Saints, Margaret Street, W1 and the Ukrainian Cathedral, W1 - Friday 21st August. Sue Amphlett.
