September outing : Chiswick
We travelled out from Waterloo Main line to Chiswick. On a lovely warm day a short walk brought us to Chiswick House and Gardens. We walked towards the waterfall, then taking a path by the lake and over the bridge. There are many footpaths, each one having either a folly or statue at the end. We tried one which took us to a statue and the rose garden. Not a single rose as it had all been tided up! We did find a lovely garden which had plenty of Autumn colour. After a walk around the outside of Chiswick House we had lunch in the outside area of the cafe. Next we took a short walk to the river Thames via St Nicholas Church. Here there are graves of many well none including William Hogarth andJames Whistler. It was then a pleasant one mile walk by the Thames to Barns Bridge station and back to Waterloo.
