Why not come and join us for a walk on the 4th Tuesday of each month for health, friendship and mental wellbeing.  We are a friendly group who enjoy walking approximately 4 to 5 miles in various locations.  It could be a pavement walk in London, or along a canal tow path, on the Thames Path or locally and usually ending in a pub lunch. Anywhere we can get to using our Freedom Passes.

Shuttle Riverway Walk from Sidcup to Hall Place – 25 August

We met in Station Road, Sidcup on a beautiful sunny day and walked down to the beginning of Halfway Street and entered Lamorbey Park (The Glade) on our right. We followed the path for a short way and exited into Burnt Oak Lane and turned right until we came to Marlborough Park and the River Shuttle. The River Shuttle is a small tributary of the River Cray and rises at two or more springs between Avery Hill and Eltham. (Last month we followed the river to Avery Hill Park). Crossing the road we walked past Chatsworth Infant
School and took the unmade path on our right that skirts the golf course and the backs of houses. At the end the area opened up and we came to the busy Penhill Road. Crossing the road the river became more visible on our left with some beautiful weeping willows on the river bank. As we crossed Crofton Avenue the river began to meander. We entered the ancient Hornbean woodland known as Bexley Woods after crossing Elmwood Drive. We then exited into Parkhill Road, Bexley. The group were happy to continue to Hall Place and a breeze helped us on our way. We crossed into Riverdale Road with the River Shuttle on our right. At the end we turned right into Upton Road South and immediately left into Love
Lane with its slight incline. At the end, when the road becomes Hartford Road, we turned left and followed an unsurfaced footpath. We became very aware of the noise coming from theA2. Following the now surfaced path we cross over the River Shuttle footbridge. This path skirts BETHS School and then bears right and we followed the river to the A2 and made our way into Bexley Village (very noisy). We then crossed Bourne Road and we were all ready for a sit down, cuppa and lunch at the Riverside Café in the grounds of Hall Place where the River Shuttle joins the River Cray.
