We are watching a series of lectures entitled "The World's Greatest Paintings". These are given by an American Professor and range from the 1300's right up to modern times. Many of the paintings are familiar to most of us, yet the introduction of less familiar ones bring variety to this course.

Our DVD viewing in January was in two parts.  The first part featured Impressionist masterpieces by Corot, Courbet, Manet, Degas, Monet and Cezanne.  Also featured were the English artists Constable and Turner, their paintings of Salisbury Cathedral (Constable) and Venice (Turner) being familiar to most of us.

The second part of our viewing featured drawings and prints.  Not only were we able to view several of these, but we were given details of how the prints were made using wood or stone blocks.  Once made they could be used many times, and the pictures could be set alongside type giving the viewer relevant information.
