Why “Mono Photo Group”?
With black & white photography the photographer and the viewer must think about what they are looking at without the distraction of colour, instead looking at composition, shapes & lighting. We also convert to sepia etc. and spot colour. More thought must be developed when photos are taken in this medium. It can look dramatic, classy and moody.
Skilled in basic photography, wish to try or rekindle an interest in Black & White photography using a digital camera? Look at the vacancies list for further information if you wish to give us a try.
The Mono Photo Group usually meets monthly including "location days". Previous activities have covered macro and close-up photography, day and night shoots in London, Battersea Power Station and a morning at Brands Hatch.
Members photograph chosen themes, exchanging ideas and techniques, then compare results on a TV.
A previous months “screening”, had a variation of subjects to choose from, namely: Silhouettes, Shadows, Heritage, Vanishing Point & Lines, plus Own Choice. In total about fifty photographs were shown, interpretations were interesting & varied. Making the individual think about the ideas of the other four, possibly considering “Why did I not think of that”. Our group has increased in strength this year to its maximum number which gives us all a push to be more creative with our ideas. Previous photos included Nursery Rhymes, & Fairy Stories, plus our favourites for the year.
January showing was of “Boxes & Shapes” as well as “Sidcup”. We also had a short talk on how to change photos to black & white with easy adjustments to enhance them.
We are a friendly bunch without the competitiveness of a camera club.
